This plush figure is one of the main characters of Disney's 1994 animated film "The Lion King." The movie tells the story of Mufasa, mighty lion king of the Pride Lands, his young son and heir apparent Simba, and his evil brother Scar who plots to grab the rule of the land for himself. Scar connives with wicked hyenas to murder Mufasa and blame the deed on Simba. Simba is banished from the Pride Lands and escapes to the jungle where he is befriended by a meerkat named Timon, and a warthog named Pumbaa. Simba is content in the jungles while his uncle sits atop Pride Rock and rules the Pride Lands for his own gain. Sometime later, a chance meeting between Simba and his childhood friend Nala convinces the young lion that he needs to return to the Pride Lands and take his rightful place as king. With the help of Timon and Pumbaa and with guidance from Rafiki, a baboon and wiseman or shaman, Simba returns to the Pride Rock and becomes king. "The Lion King" film was so successful, Disney released two more films involving the characters from the Pride Lands, and in 1997 it opened a theatrical version of the story on Broadway.
