The first animated lead character created by Walt Disney was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Oswald starred in 26 silent shorts between 1927 and 1928. Although Disney lost the rights to the rabbit during a 1928 business deal, the company had no shortage of rabbits. Characters included Thumper, Brer Rabbit, White Rabbit, March Hare, Rabbit, and Roger Rabbit, among others. This rabbit most resembles the Brer Rabbit from the 1946 movie "Song of the South."
