SUE the T. Rex : SUE's Skull

Field Museum

Field Museum
Chicago, United States

SUE's skull is complete though somewhat distorted. At The Field Museum, it is not mounted with the rest of the skeleton because it would be too hard to study 13 feet in the air. A "corrected" cast of the skull and jaws was made to put on the end of the neck. The real skull is in its own display case where it can be rolled out and easily studied.

With its super size, sight, sense of smell, and stride, Tyrannosaurus rex was the apex predator of its time and ruled the world from 71 to 66 million years ago.

As with most meat-eaters, this huge dinosaur probably had to both hunt and scavenge to stay alive.

T. rex could spy supper from seven miles away, sniff out prey or carrion far away, and outpace most any other animal-both those hoping to escape the giant's bone-crushing bite, or those trying to beat it in a race to an already dead dinner.
