Suffragette performers at the International Suffrage Fair, 1912. The women were taking part in the Dances of All Nations that was a highlight of the Fair. Choreographed by the professional dance teacher Ruby Ginner the dances performed included a Spanish fandango, a Hungarian country dance, an Irish jig and a Russian mazurka. This image was one in a series taken by Christina Broom depicting participants and events at the Fair that was organised by the Women's Freedom League to raise funds for the League and to inform visitors about the progress of female suffrage throughout the world. Suffragettes dressed in national costume manned stalls representing different nations arranged according to whether they gave women the vote. From the stalls flew flags of the various nations with a figure of Liberty adorning those that had already granted the franchise to women. The Fair took place at Chelsea Town Hall in the Kings Road between 13th and 16th November 1912 and, as well as the demonstrations of national dance, also included a programme of entertainment by the Actresses' Franchise League.
