The quality and complexity of the designs of New York silversmith Edward C. Moore, exclusive producer for retailer Tiffany & Co. between 1851 and 1868 and later chief designer, increased throughout the 1860s. This sugar sifter, used to sprinkle sugar over fruit and other foods, features an exuberant Neoclassical style handle featuring acanthus leaves and a ram's head.
