Sugar Skulls, from the Day of the Dead Animation Short. Calaveritas or sugar skulls are created from sugar paste pressed into a ceramic mold. They are decorated with sugar flowers and designs, and sometimes a name is written on the forehead. They are placed on the ofrendas but are also given to children as gifts. The skulls represent death and the sugar represents the sweetness of life.
