This is a sample of Sugilite (KNa2(Fe,Mn,Al)2Li3Si12O30), a rare cyclosilicate mineral sometimes referred to as lavulite, royal azel, cybeline, or wesselite. It is named after Ken-ichi Sugi, who first described it. It comes in a range of shades of purple, deriving its purple color from traces of the chemical element Manganese.
