Bakusen preferred to paint flowers and birds from the end of the Taisho Period, in particular, flowers that were noble and fragrant such as hibiscus manihot, poppies, peonies, morning glories, lotus and chrysanthemums. This work is also unique to Bakusen in its sense of dignity and purity.
