In some of the Antonio Alice’ s work, far from the academic rigor of his historical portraits, blossoms a contained sensibility related in some way to the subtle impressionism that timidly began to arrive to the shores of the Río de la Plata. Mañana en Miramar (Morning in Miramar) from 1936 exudes a bucolic air, suggested by soft harmonies and an interesting composition that features a powerful foreground that accentuates the perspective. Figures are distributed across the canvas with soft brushstrokes. The orange tone tent alongside the sea sets the overall tone, repeated here and there in the figures of bathers. The complementary hue, blue, is predominant in the figures in shadow and a boat on the sand, fading away in the sky’s pastel light blue. The resulting atmosphere is placid and calm.
