Hectic battles are played out in the expressive, boldly coloured, stylised paintings by Arne Haugen Sørensen (born 1932), but he has never pulled his punches and feels that people are very dangerous and aggressive. Centaurs armed with lances are fighting each other, and in the painting 'Viznar 5' – which refers to the Andalusian town of that name – two naked figures are kneeling in front of a gun barrel. The paintings in the Legal Affairs Committee's committee room deal with life and death and they become symbols of the difficult and often serious struggles concerning right and wrong in Danish society that politicians must engage in. Fortunately, words are the weapons used in Parliament, not lances or pistols. Author: Lisbeth Bonde, M.A and art critic. Photographer: Torben Eskerod.
