Sutter's Mill

Sutter's Mill, on the south fork of the American River in Coloma, California, was a sawmill owned by pioneer John Sutter. On January 24, 1848 James Marshall found gold flakes in the tailrace of the mill. His discovery sparked the Gold Rush, and forever changed California.
