The present work is an outstanding example of Blanco’s finest style, as is Purity, another work by the artist in the Colección Santander. Swan marks the end of a series in which Blanco’s sculpture combines volume and void while also opening up the form to “exterior” space. He depicted this subject on several occasions. Swan summarises the principal characteristics of Blanco’s work: its Baroque nature and a marked dynamism opens up the form and produces a sense of a circular turn that liberates tension. The swan’s head is the only element that gives a figurative character to this work, in which the subject otherwise functions as a pretext for the development of form.
