[Swinburne Island view]

A photograph of the thin strip of buildings that makes up Swinburne Island, one of the quarantine locations for immigrants arriving in New York City. This image, shot from a boat, also has a morbid feeling due to the presence of a crematorium on the right hand side of the island, identifiable by its two dark chimneys.
