The outer rim was made of gold and copper alloy. The hole on the right side is for inserting kogai (samurai’s hairdressing tool). The two punctured holes on the lower part are for passing a string of the sword through it. It is quite a simple piece, yet it shows a tasteful feature of the iron sword guard.
