Museo Lázaro Galdiano
Madrid, Spain

This sword was a gift from Pope Innocent VIII Cybo to Iñigo López de Mendoza, 2nd Count of Tendilla. Sent to Rome by king Ferdinand the Catholic, he acted as an ambassador and mediator between the Pope and Ferdinand I of Naples and managed to get them to reconcile. It was carried out by the Florentine artisan Giacomo magnolino, and thepayment order is kept in the records of the sacro Palazzo Apostolico. This type of sword, blessed at Christmas mass, was given by the popes to the main European kings and princes.
