This is a sword with a short double-edged blade, a narrow crossguard, and a figured pommel. The pommel corresponds to the Scythian animal style. It has the form of a pair of curved stylized claws of a bird of prey. The grip has a carved decoration in the form of the head of an animal, possibly a horse. This artifact was discovered in one of the burials of a large burial mound of the 6th–5th centuries BC near the village of Vovkivtsi, Sumy region. Serhii Mazaraki with the participation of Vikentii Khvoika researched this burial mound at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
