Silla swords with ring-pommels can be divided according to the shape of the ring, which can feature plain, three-leaf, dragon, phoenix, and dragon-head designs. Swords decorated with dragon or phoenix designs were the latest of the various trends. This sword with a phoenix-shaped ring-pommel was found to the left of the body of the tomb’s occupant. The ring-pommel and phoenix design were forged as a single piece of bronze and then plated with gold. The sheath and handle are wood, wrapped in gilt-bronze plates. There is one hook where a small dagger or
a spear could be attached, as well as a diamond-shaped hook for cords to connect the sword and sheath to the body.
