Rafael Romero ( 1967) is a plastic artist, a lecturer in the Pictoric Procedures Laboratory of the Faculty of Fines Arts at Barcelona University and a doctor “cum laude” in Fine Arts at Barcelona University. He is an artist at the Galleries Jordi Barnadas (Barcelona), Joan Planellas (Tossa de Mar, Girona), Maes (Madrid) and In der Mühle (Schorndorf, Germany). In Symbolón, Rafael Romero presents us a stripped down conception of the symbol, and a new dimension of the world where the innocence of the future produces a yearning for nostalgia. The secret of his project is to cause a change in direction, both in the work and the spectator, to return to the original. When we place ourselves before the work of Romero, we see an irreducible aesthetic world warning of unidimensionality and the dictatorship of causal, merely lineal explanation. The artist acts as child and priest simultaneously to show us the echoes of a children’s game, and the grounds that house the emblematic footprint of being. His work has fulfilment and destiny in the metaphorical horizon that constantly opens up to the infinite. An infinite quest between the purest future and the essence of tradition.
