CHEON Kwang-yeop (1958- ) puts emphasis on both the basic formal elements of color and plane and the rhythmic rapport between those elements. Furthermore, he seeks to extend, by utilizing visual vocabularies, the mechanism of visual perception into a tactile and sentimental experience. In Symptoms 10-3 (2010) a countless number of 3-millimeter diameter plastic circles are arranged on an aluminum honeycomb panel in an overlapping manner, over that which a kind of transparent acrylic urethane paint is sprayed evenly and then it was again coated with unsaturated polyurethane resin, and finally the surface is polished to give it a glossy finish. With an intention to start with minimal forms, he concentrated on the structure, repetition, density, and depth of dots, and by doing so Cheon has successfully arrived at the ultimate core of two-dimensional painting.
