The first U.S. Air Force supersonic jet trainer, the T-38A “Talon” entered service with the 3510th Flying Training Wing at Randolph Air Force Base (AFB) in March 1961. Today, the T-38 continues to train the next generation of U.S. Air Force fighter pilots at Randolph AFB under the 12th Flying Training Wing. A little known fact is that a T-38 portrayed the fictional MiG-28 in the hit movie, Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise. The Perot Group of Plano, Texas, obtained and beautifully restored the aircraft on display for the Frontiers of Flight Museum.
