This is a T-shaped armrest that is held under the user’s arm while sitting, with the aim to support the body when leaning to one side. A cross bar is joined to a long wooden haft in a T shape, and cloud-shape carvings are attached to both ends of the joint for reinforcement. In some cases, two cross bars are joined at each end of a wooden haft to make a “工” shape, with the two cloud-shaped cravings attached to only one joint. Others consist of two hafts attached at the center of the cross bar to make a “II” shape. Armrests were generally made of wood such as birch or ginkgo tree.
