BREAKING NEWS is an artwork that combines data and artificial intelligence technologies to generate nonsense stories. With the flood of information on the web, we no longer merely trust the data we encounter. BREAKING NEWS deals with how we come across manipulated or partial data in the form of ‘news’. ‘Breaking’ news with your face cropped over celebrities and political figures is generated when you type in certain keywords, with no identifiable meaning. Through a process of artificial intelligence model generated by text learning and GAN (Generative Adversarial Network), it points to the potential relationship between human information-big data- and artificial intelligence. Do we have full control over our data? How would the use of technology affect us in today’s Big Data society? BREAKING NEWS signals the importance of our consciousness in the data we produce and consume.
