A tobacco pouch made of leather "santome". The leathers brought to Japan through trade were named after the shipping port and place of origin. The name of leather santome is considered to be associated with the old name of the Indian Coromandel Coast or shipping port, São Tomé. The imported leathers were prized in the Edo period, an era in which the leather industry had not yet developed.
