Sumida, Japan

The kiseruzutsu (Japanese pipe case) seems to be made of bamboo, but in fact it is made of lacquered wood to imitate soot-colored bamboo. It was made by Hashimoto Ichizo, a famous lacquer craftsman. His works gained popularity among refined people and even the imitations appeared on the market. The main material of this pouch is the velvet woven with gold thread. The fitting metal of the pouch is in the shape of Hotei, a deity of shichifukujin(Japanese seven deities of good fortune). He is washing rice.
