Table clock. Renaissance. Lithuania

This is a horizontal,bronze table clock in a hexagonal
case with three lion’s paw shaped stands and a sound indicator, a gong. The
clock’s mechanism is visible through the six irregular oval-shaped glass
windows on the sides of the case. A view of Vilnius is etched on the flat part
on top of the case and comprises the background of the clock dial. The hours
are marked in Roman numerals (I-XII) and the half-hours are marked with stars,
all etched onto a round brass band. The single hour hand is decorated on the
front with tracery and has a small arrow, a complete cirlce is attached to the
end. The gong is attached at the bottom to a plate which covers the mechanism.
This plate is decorated with floral openwork, and the following caption is
engraved on it: “Theodor Tarasovig Wilna” and the numbers “12345”.
