Tairiiri (Fan)

Tairiiri. Fan. Composite tairiiri woven from rauara (pandanus leaf) with overlaid strips of dyed-red fabric and dyed-black and dyed-red apuraka (giant swamp taro) akamanea (decoration) and mauranga (handle) rakau (wooden). The blade is in shape of a diamond. Plaited commencement at centre of blade. Woven out in check from the centre to form lower edge and sides of blade. Blade terminates at single apex.
