This is a monument to Taras Shevchenko, erected on the central alley of the park named after him in Kharkiv. The author of the monument is a sculptor Matthew Manizer, the architecture was designed by Joseph Langbard. The monument to Shevchenko was unveiled in March 1935, a few months after Kharkiv lost its status as the capital of the Ukrainian SSR. The monument is an example of socialist realism style. Beside Kobzar himself, other characters from his works are depicted here: Kateryna and Haydamaky, as well as generalized images of Ukrainians under the tsarist regime - a peasant, a worker and a conscript soldier.
