Social Fabric aims to help build South Africa's textile industry through development of an innovation pipeline. We profile Tayla Nguskos Smith, a South African fashion designer who works with mohair in experimental ways. Weaving with yarn may be traditional but Tayla demonstrates her adaption of traditional ideas in modern designs by "weaving" it through angora goat leather. When asked what she would do with mohair in a world of no limitations she responded without hesitation “to recreate any type of fabric such as chiffon, satin or lycra.” Whilst this may turn out to be an impossibility it is through the trying that new ways of working will come about.
