Formerly among the collection of the Konoike family of Osaka, this piece was one of a set of five but was separated from the others when it was sold in 1940. The set was originally made in China, commissioned from Japan as mukozuke dishes for serving food. The red sandalwood lid was added later so that the object could be used as a tea caddy in tea ceremonies. An air of intelligence is presented by the effective black lines applied for the design.

- Object Notes(Japanese): かつて大阪の鴻池家に五客一組で伝来し、昭和15年(1940)の売りたてで分割された。元来は日本からの注文により向付として作られたもの。紫檀の割蓋を添えて、替茶器に仕立てられている。黒の線描を効果的に用いた絵付けは、理知的な気分をそなえている。
