The Hawkins ‘TECAL’ tea maker from 1952 is an alarm clock with automatic kettle. When the set time is reached, the electric element in the boiler is switched on. The boiling water is then forced through the boiler lid and via a tube to an adjacent teapot. This causes the entire unit to tilt forward and activate the light and buzzer alarm. The sleeper is then awakened to a freshly made pot of tea.
