This bamboo scoop is characterized by the following: nakafushi (a knot in the middle), arigoshi (a bent back of the knot), hitohi (a single groove), marutame (a gentle curved bowl). The tip of the scoop is round in shape and the end of the scoop is cut off in a slant. The savor of the soot-colored bamboo can be seen between the tip and the knot. The crack along the groove enhances the charm of the piece.
The storage tube of the scoop is made in a formal style called “shin”, which is achieved by shaving the entire surface of the bamboo to create the smooth jointless tube.
