Henry Clay Frick purchased this gorgeous Russian enameled tea set from Tiffany & Co., New York, in 1894. It was part of a new line of silver enamelware made especially for Tiffany’s by the prestigious Moscow firm of A. I. Kuzmichev. Russian, near- and far-eastern objects were popular in the late 1800s. The receipt shows that the service was acquired for $500 on December 15th, the day before Mrs. Frick’s birthday. Each piece is engraved with her monogram, and it is possible that it was a birthday gift from her husband.
