Tea Set

18 piece Chinese tea service decorated on exterior in rust red with garden scenes. During the Manchu dynasty, particularly in the 18th century, porcelain was made and decorated for the European and American markets. The bulk of their output dates from the opening of the Dutch and English headquarters at Canton. The Chinese merchants were known as Hong and monopolized the trade with Europeans to whom they rented factories, so called, during "the Season." The majority of the work was done by Chinese artists in the famous manufactury at Ching-Te-Chen, the center of the ceramic industry. Some were decorated by Europeans. This tea service show every sign of being decorated by different Chinese artists.
