Teacup

The archaeology of the block on the northeast corner of Simcoe Street and Adelaide Street West, in Toronto, was conducted in 2007 by Archaeological Services Inc. (ASI). This excavation documented the changing landscape on Adelaide Street from a semi-rural, upper middle class range of single-family homes to an urban, working class enclave of boarding houses and commercial businesses by the early twentieth century. The cup was reconstructed from white refined earthenware sherds decorated with black transfer printed image. The cup does not bear a maker's mark but the pattern is from a series called "Canadian sports" by the Scottish potter John's Marshall & Co. dated from c. 1880.
