Teapot, from a tea service

This teapot was part of a set - the most complete Revere service known - made for a Boston merchant and his wife, John and Mehitable Templeman. The set includes one of only two tea caddies made by Revere. These locked boxes held tea, an expensive and fashionable commodity. The set also contains a shell-shaped spoon used for measuring tea and a sieve used for straining punch, a beverage often served along with tea. A second stand in the set may have been used as a tray for spoons. A group of teaspoons has recently been reunited with this service.
