The round body, the strap handle, the tapering spout, and the globular finial of this teapot, as well as the lack of a foot, are consistent with a ceramic prototype that was popular in the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Small vessels in precious materials such as this were produced for use in the palace and for display.
