This distinctive Rockingham teapot patterned with beavers and maple leaves was found during a Stage Four excavation of the Bishop’s Block site in Toronto. The 2007 excavation encompassed the remains of four townhouses. This teapot and six others were found in the fourth townhouse, which was built circa 1860 and operated as a boarding house for much of the last quarter of the 19th century. Borders were served at large communal meals, accounting for the sizable amount of kitchen and food-related objects recovered. The teapot was made by Brantford Pottery in Brantford, Ontario.
