Tegnùe Tegnùe aquarium

A five meters long aquarium, of approximately 5,000 liters, that faithfully recreates the “tegnùe” habitat, one of the most interesting marine environments of the Northern Adriatic Sea, with an outstanding abundance of fish and invertebrates. The “tegnùe” are natural rock formations situated at a depth between 8 and 40 meters, the area of which can vary from a few hundred to several thousands square meters. The meaning of the local name “tegnùe” (from “hold back”: “tenere”, “trattenere”, in Italian) comes from the fact that these rocky structures restrain anchors, trawling nets and fishing tools, often breaking them, so that they are avoided by fishing boats.
