Around 1900 Karl Hagemeister began a series of landscape paintings, which artistically transform the reflection of light and water and the colourfulness of a summer landscape in a free style. His large-format, monumental pond pictures almost approach murals in their dimensions. He elevates such a simple subject to the meaningful. This shows that he has the claim to treat his pictorial world on an equal level with the model of nature.
