This butterfly is also known as the Emperor of India, and is a rare species of swallowtail butterfly native to northern India, Nepal and northern Vietnam. It is a keystone species of high-altitude forest conservation. Unfortunately, it is still hunted and traded for substantial amounts. Its vibrant green colour is derived from complex three-dimensional photonic structures of the wing scales, which cause a unique iridescence.
