Miniaturized home electronics proliferated in the last decades of the 20th century. Consumers perceived portability as a desirable quality, a factor that Sony applied to the successful Walkman portable cassette player and radio line. In the wake of that success, Sony produced a personal TV with a tiny screen called the Watchman. While it never had a market penetration to compare with the Walkman, the Watchman nonetheless offered the option of television viewing to people at sporting events, at the office, and elsewhere. This Watchman, the FD-40A model, has the largest screen of the product line--a massive 4 inches measured diagonally.
