Temperate Michelangelo

Jacopo Vignali1628

Casa Buonarroti

Casa Buonarroti
Firenze, Italy

In this scene Vignali painted Michelangelo’s meeting with a prince. The master, without hut, bends his head and shows humility to the king and his servants which offer him rich gifts. The crown placed on the table indicates the royal dignity. The episode could represent the meeting with Carlo V, actually probably never occurred, who, according to legend, would be up in front of the artist, stating that there were lots of emperors but only one Michelangelo.
