The 24th National Exhibition of Art, 1977
1st Prize, Gold Medal Award in Painting

The National Exhibition of Art is the oldest national competition stage of Thailand that has been organized constantly until now. It aims to encourage Thai artists to produce painting, sculpture, prints and multimedia works which present their artistic skills. Gold medal, silver medal and bronze medal award-winning works will become the property of Silpakorn University, who reserves the right to promote works in all channels.

Preecha Thaothong is a National Artist in Visual Art (Fine Art) in 2007 as well as the 16th Artist of Distinction in 1979 who discovered the beauty of lights and shadows. Preecha learned that “lights”, though infinite, would be obstructed when they face objects, creating “shadows”; then, the sharp contrast between darkness and brightness occur. Such discovery emerged after he studied the grandeur and sacred Thai architecture. Subsequently, he developed the styles and techniques into unique portrayals in fine art.
