This album entitled Ten Dogs is a collection of works by the court painters of the Qianlong reign (1736–1795) and depicts the ferocity, success, and distinctive physique of hunting dogs. The painters employed advanced techniques in their stylized art production. The album also features calligraphy and poetry such as the ancient bestiary The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhai jing), the rhyme-prose Running Dog (Zougou fu) by Fu Xuan (217–278; courtesy name Xiuyi) of the Jin dynasty (265–420); and the rhyme-prose Heavenly Dog (Tiangou fu) by Du Fu (712–770) of the Tang dynasty (618–907) copied by court officials including Chen Bangyan, Wang Tubing, Li Tingyi, Zhang Tingyu, Jiang Tingxi, Zhang Zhao, and Bo Hai.
