Manasa is intrinsically connected to the socio-religious and cultural fabric of Bengal. Here we see Manasachali or Manasabari, an idol of Goddess Manasa made of Terracotta. It features a small figure of Goddess Manasa and a group of figurines in the middle and lower portion. There is a chali - rows of snake hoods fanning out in a half moon shape to represent Manasa - the Goddess of snakes. Chali or bari in Bengali means shade or home. Chali is referred here as the shade or home of the idol. These idols are available in two basic colors of reddish-yellow and black.
