London, United Kingdom

This is plate 28 of the fourth volume of the Zoology of the Beagle, dedicated to fish. The volume was authored by ichtyologist Reverend Leonard Jenyns after the specimens Charles Darwin collected during the Beagle expedition and using his field notes. The volume was also 'superintended' by Darwin.

This tetrodon was collected by Charles Darwin in the Galapagos Archipelago, on Chatham Island. This is the first description of this specific species.

The illustration is of 'natural size' with an additional dorsal view.
