Painted for the Colonial Club. Frame 32x62". This oil tanker was built in 1917 by the Bath yard of the Texas Steam Ship Co., the shipbuilding division of the Texas Oil Co. (TEXACO). This shipyard was the third yard in Maine to built steel ships. J. F. Carville was a talented amateur artist who did many marine oils with Bath-related subject matter. Employed by the Texas Oil Company, he worked in Bath at their local shipyard during World War I. Later he moved to Port Arthur, Texas.
