It’s non-stop from first thing in the morning at this fish stall, where work on fulfilling orders goes on all day. José Abad began helping his father when he was 13 years old, whenever he had any free time from school. Now 45, this is his commitment to his customers: “I select the best quality and the freshest products that are in season. John Dory, turbot, seabream, tuna steaks, red seabream, razor clams, Galician crayfish, squid, oysters, winkles, crab, clams...and line-caught hake, which is really popular.”
A feature of Madrid’s Chamberí neighborhood since 1933, the Vallehermoso Market’s raison d’etre is the same as when it first opened its doors to the public: selling quality products. However, today it does so under a new business model in which customers can not only shop there, but also go out for tapas, lunch, or dinner at one of its many catering outlets.
