Artist from Antwerp, active from 1599 to 1642. Pupil of his father Frans Francken I (1542–1616). Teacher of his son Frans Francken III (1607–1667). Biblical subjects, Greek mythology, saints, kings, collections of paintings, allegories. Many Biblical scenes in flower garlands. Francken has also painted figures in the landscapes of other masters, including Abraham Govaert (1589–1626), Pieter Neefs (I) (1578/90– 1656/61), Pieter Neefs (II) (1620–1675/85). Worked together with flower painters Jan Brueghel (II) (1601– 1678) and Andries Daniels (?–1602/1640).
