The Adoration of the Magi

In 1516, the Nuremberg artist Ludwig Krug (1488–1532) engraved the motif “The Adoration of the Magi” in copper. In contrast to Dürer, who chose the same scenery for both adoration pieces, the adoration of the kings by Krug takes place in an interior decorated with imposing reliefs, which are supported by ornamented columns, the noble appearance of which stands in stark contrast to the poor inn, where Mary and Joseph found shelter for the birth of Christ. In addition to the three Magi, many other nobles, perhaps the royal entourage, can be seen who have come to worship Baby Jesus.
